Lead Mentor — coach the coaches.

The Lead Mentor sits at the center of the mentor program. You facilitate the weekly workshops, run the check-ins, lead the work sessions, and hold every peer mentor accountable for actually using the strategies they teach. It is the most demanding — and most formative — role in the EF Leadership Institute.

The Role

What a Lead Mentor actually does.

This is not a title. It is a weekly practice of facilitation, coaching, and evaluation — built around six core responsibilities.

Facilitate Weekly Workshops

Lead the cohort's weekly EF workshops — opening the room, guiding discussion, and translating curriculum into language peers actually use.

Lead With Vulnerability

Set the emotional tone. Share your own EF struggles, name what is hard, and model the honesty the cohort needs to grow.

1-on-1 Mentor Check-Ins

Run weekly check-ins with every peer mentor on your team. Listen first, then coach on what is working, what is stuck, and what to try next.

Run Work Sessions

Host and lead structured work sessions where mentors and freshmen actually apply the strategies — planning, prioritizing, initiating tasks together.

Strategy Accountability

Ensure mentors are using the EF strategies taught each week with their freshmen — not just understanding them, but applying them in real pairings.

Performance Evaluations

Deliver clear, written performance evaluations for each mentor on a regular cadence. Celebrate growth, name gaps, and set the next benchmark.
